Your smile is one of the first things that people will notice about you when they meet you for the first time. It is a huge part of making a first impression, whether you realize it or not. It is one of the parts of the body which is the most difficult to cover up and for this reason can have a huge impact on your overall physical appearance in both a positive and a negative way. This is why the smile can also be one of the physical aspects which most damage a person’s self-esteem. But there are plenty of ways in which you can improve your smile and whatever your age, it is never too late to do something about it.
It has been proven that the act of smiling itself releases endorphins which make a person feel happier. People who are self-conscious about their smile often try to hide it by not opening their mouths as much in public. This means that they smile far less often, releasing far fewer endorphins, therefore making them feel less happy in general.
The same is true of speaking in public. It follows that a person who is self-conscious about their mouth is less likely to want to speak in front of new people. This makes it much harder for the person to contribute to conversations; harder to feel like they are an active part of discussions or debates and subsequently harder to meet new people and make new friends.
By tackling the problem head on, and giving someone the perfect smile, these fears and anxieties can all start to melt away. By making a person feel less ashamed to open their mouth in public they will suddenly find that they look for any excuse to smile, laugh and talk. They will outwardly appear much more content, which will hopefully reflect how much happier and at ease they feel on the inside. This can be achieved through relatively simple procedures as well; it doesn’t need to be the result of a dramatic dental makeover. Simply whitening the teeth can have a huge effect on self-confidence as it makes people proud of what they have and they will want to show it off far more often.
This ability to enter in to conversations without feeling worried about people looking at their teeth will open up so many more doors. It will enable them to form new friendships and relationships more easily and will give them the sense that they are taking a more active control over their own life. It has even been shown that people who believe that they have the perfect smile tend to earn on average much higher wages than people who do not have the same belief. If the increased self-confidence, in itself, isn’t motivation enough to make your smile what you want it to be, then maybe the prospect of a fatter wage packet will be.
